Have The Rolling Stones Killed Ep 6 – New and Recent Stones

We at The Balcony aren’t fond of rules . . . making them or following them. When we started Have the Rolling Stones Killed, the edict was: don’t play anything after Tattoo You. (We don’t need to explain why.) But, because we are who we are . . . screw that. In episode 6 we stick to the newer Stones. Enjoy the last couple decades of your favorite band being too old to rock and still getting the job done.

Gimme Back My Song Ep 6: Robert Johnson Covers

There are many artists who have had their catalogs covered over and over again. If there were a Top 5 of most covered artists Robert Johnson would probably be at the top. Anyone in the 60s who played guitar, played Robert Johnson. On episode 6 Of Gimme Back My Song we explore almost the entire catalog of Robert Johnson with cover versions by a wide variety of artists. Maybe it’s part of the show or you just need to fill time but you don’t need to be a blues musician to play a song by Robert Johnson. But it helps.

The FreeSpace Ep 6

Sometimes, man . . . sometimes, you know, man, you gotta . . . you know, trust the DJ. You gotta let someone else drive the car once in a while. Turn the GPS off, man. We at The Balcony got it covered, we’ll chauffeur you around the musical universe without leaving the comfort of our chairs. Actually, it might be better if you laid down. In episode six of The FreeSpace we just play . . . whatever. And it’s pretty cool. Buckle up. We drive with purpose.

The 61st Annual Balcony Radio Christmas Spectacular

The end of the year can mean many things: increased traffic, broken dreams, out-of-balance accounting ledgers, going to the gym to make up for the last 51 weeks of NOT going to the gym, and the endless and growing parade of Christmas-themed programming and music. These things go on for weeks. This year your hosts keep it to a minimum and just sit down and play tunes and talk about what a great year we’ve had. Let’s close the book on this year. Next year is another story. Our holiday hermitage might get flamboyant.

From The Board Ep 6 (200th show)

200TH EPISODE! 200TH EPISODE!! 200TH EPISODE!!!

This program is a milestone in the history of BalconyRadio. We’ve reached our Bicentennial. 199 shows ago we were just beginning to crawl out of the internet digital stew as a little stream trickling through some cheap software. Now we’ve reached a special birthday and we’re going to ring it in with some “live” music. It is episode 6 of From The Board. There’s no need to go into a big social, political or emotional rant about the greatness of a “live” show. We’re really too busy partying in The Balcony. Sorry, kids. We’re locking the door for a private party. But you’re welcome to listen with the other guests.

101 Series Lesson 78.2: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Live ~ with special guest DJ Kat Jackson!

OK everyone. It’s time for the Petty party to continue as our three instructors (heroes) return to the classroom (studio) to listen to some “Live” music from Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers. This is part 2 of Lesson 78 in the 101 Series and it’s 2 hrs of great performances throughout the career of this band. And back to grace us with her presence is guest DJ Kat Jackson ready to party beat for beat. All who were present previously have passes at the door. Show starts when the lights flash.

Found Gems Ep 6

Big stars have big hits, but sometimes they have big misses . . . Here at Balcony Radio we understand that not every effort is your best. Sometimes you just do ai’ight. What we also understand is that some people’s ai’ight is still pretty fucking brilliant. Join us for episode 6 of our testament to forgotten tunes of all your favorite singer/songwriters types: Found Gems. Not every song is a single and not every filler track is fluff, dammit.

101 Series Lesson 78.1: Tom Petty (In Studio) ~ with special guest DJ Kat!

OK. We’re not going to BS around here – Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers are GREAT! And they made some amazing albums that kick major ASS. So, for Lesson 78 of the 101 Series we devote two full shows to them. First in the studio and next week “live” and in full color. Plus to add to the festivities we’re joined by guest DJ Kat Jackson. It’s a party in The Balcony this week. All guests to the show have automatic passes to the concert. Door’s open – come on in!

101 Series Lesson 77: John Hiatt

What does John Hiatt have beneath that gruff exterior? We don’t know . . . a gigantic foldy brain, a house big heart, guts the size of boulders . . . the usual stuff unsung geniuses have. In Lesson 77 of the 101 Series we pull out some tunes by one of the best phrase turners America has ever produced: Mr. John Hiatt. Join us while we sample some delicacies from five decades of tasty rock dished out with a smile and a raised eyebrow.

Embryonic Ep 6

Jimi Hendrix wrote “Purple Haze”. Was it always the great song it is now? um..Well..uh..maybe. Bob Dylan wrote “Ballad of a Thin Man”. Was it a stunning masterpiece from the first day? Uh..um, well,..it could’ve been. Be that as it may, lots of songs started life in a more simple version and needed to be worked on to become great. On Episode 6 of our demos show “Embryonic” we listen to some music icons in a more stripped-down environment (or an alternate universe) playing the songs you know – differently. You can judge for yourself. Is it right for the Hit Parade or the Lost Archives?
