Time For Bob Ep 3

Bob Dylan is Bruce Springsteen + David Bowie x Woody Guthrie. The math checks out. In episode 3 of our tribute to the Shakespeare of the midwest, Time For Bob, we play two hours of wild mercury from half a century’s worth of kick ass music. The curly haired genius kinda looks like a riverboat gambler now because of that mustache, but we forgive him.

Bob! Bob! Bob! Bob! Bob! Bob! Bob! Click the link for more Bob:

In this show we sit down for two hours of songs that don’t belong together at all. Start with a blues riff in B, watch for the changes and try to keep up.

101 Series Lesson 36 – Stand-Up Room Only (Pt. 1)

It’s a funny thing – Music can be a funny thing. And it’s even funnier in the eyes of a great stand-up comedian. This week the class plan for the 101 Series is the first part of our look at comedy’s take on the music business. We bring together some very funny people saying some very funny things about some very funny musicians. No cover charge here – check your fan club memberships at the door.

Swingtime Ep 3

We hate to be the ones to tell you this, but we here at the Balcony feel as though it’s our duty to inform you . . . your grandparents did it. They had sex. Lots of it. And when they did Nat, Frank, Dean, Ella, Bing and Johnny Mathis (most likely Johnny Mathis) were singing in the background. Just face that fact, then you can join us for two hours of music the greatest generation got it on to in episode 3 of our Swingtime series. In this episode we play songs that rock without an electric guitar in sight . . .

Why don’t you go jerk us a soda and bring us back the paper, here’s two bits . . . then, when you get back, click on the link to check out the songs from this show, sonny:

101 Series Lesson 35 Part 2: Return of the 80’s

We still don’t know who shot J.R. . . . in the second session of Lesson 35, we return to the 80’s once again at Carl Lewis-like speed and check out all the songs that rocked the ride to and  from the mall. Join us while we wonder why it took so long for the Berlin Wall to come down and what exactly was that thing on Gorbachev’s head was . . .

Way back when we had a crush on one of the Thompson Twins, but we don’t remember which one . . . click on the link to check out the songs from this show while we think about it:

Songs From the Yard Ep 3

Balcony Radio is unofficially sister cities with Kingston . . . we’re just waiting on some formal paperwork we need to get notarized . . . and for someone in Jamaica to acknowledge us . . . In episode three of Songs From the Yard, we give tribute to Jah with two hours of Jamaica’s cultural gift to the world: reggae. Join us under a tin roof on a balmy day passing it to the left hand side . . .

We love reggae music so goddamn much we just dropped two hours of it with no Bob Marley. Click on the link and check out the reggae songs you can’t buy at a Starbucks register:

101 Series Lesson 35: The 80’s, Pt. 1

You can, fer shure, gag us with a spoon . . . because it’s time for some 80’s!! In lesson 35 of the 101 Series  we spin the tunes with teased hair and a fake English accent, all while drinking New Cokes and trying to finally figure out the rubik’s cube. (That’s probably why we’ll need a Part 2 next week.) There will be synthesizers, lots of synthesizers . . .

The hole in the ozone layer: all the hairspray from the 80’s have finally floated that high up . . . and burned the hell out of space! Click on the link, check out the jams:

The 45th Annual Balcony Radio Christmas Pageant

Well, good friends and neighbors, it’s that time of year for jacking up your electric bill with massive lighting, sorting out old gift cards for possible re-re-re-use for new gifts, and then flocking a big tree with snow the texture of mucous. Yes, it’s the big BalconyRadio Annual Christmas Music Extravaganza. We tear apart the Balcony studio/apartment as Anthony picks up a crowd and drags them up for a party. So we have music for a somewhat alternative Christmas good enough for the whole family. Stick it in your stocking and stuff it. It’s bloody Christmas!

101 Series Lesson 34: The Sex Pistols

We polled ourselves and have come to a consensus: Sid couldn’t play for shit. We also agree that it doesn’t really matter. In lesson 34 of the 101 Series we stick safety pins in each other and listen to the Sex Pistols for a couple of hours. At least once in this episode someone gets called a wanker . . .

Click on the link and check out the songs from the greatest one album band ever, you rotten bastards:
