Songs From the Yard Ep 7

If you know someone who doesn’t like reggae music, give them this show. Seriously. If you know someone who’s a total dick and doesn’t like reggae music, give them this show. In episode 7 of our reggae testament Songs From the Yard we pull out all the stops and give you two hours of the dankiest, stickiest, ickiest, bass-iest music ever produced on Jah’s island.

101 Series Lesson 102: Prince

Before you listen to this episode, purify yourself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka. Then we’ll leave you behind in the snow –  just because we can. For Lesson 102 of the 101 Series we focus on the music of the enigmatic musician, Prince. It’s a journey through funk, rock and psyche. Get up and get ready to dance to 2 hrs of pumpin’ Prince – or whatever he decides to call himself – action. We feel like hitting the dance floor right now. Don’t worry – we left our purple g-strings at home.

Sock Rockin’ Beats Ep 7

It’s time to nail down your lava lamp . . . we’re about to rock your fucking house off the foundation. In Episode 7 of Sock Rockin’ Beats we set aside two hours of our lives to pummel your eardrums and annoy the neighbors. YOU’RE FUCKING WELCOME!! Where is our thank you? (Hint: the best thank you is hitting the donate button on the right side of your screen. We’ll even say please.)

101 Series Lesson 101: Nirvana

Out of the Seattle sludge many bands emerged . . . only one is in the rock and roll hall of fame. That band is called Nirvana. In Lesson 101 of the 101 Series, we explore the best power trio in rock (fuck Rush). Here we are now, let Dave Kurt and Krist entertain you. Enjoy two hours of solid noise without a single mention of Courtney.

Off The Wall Ep 7 12 Inch Pleasures

When you’ve had a hard day you want to come home to a little pleasure. You need some satisfaction to ease the stress and strain. You want something that’s different and warm and lasts a little longer. For episode 7 of our tribute to our vinyl record collection, Off The Wall, we give you the pleasure you need – 12 inches worth. We dip into the 12-inch 45s that have unique songs or different mixes of well-known songs. So we’ll explore that part of the collection that usually gathers the most dust – and gives true meaning to the term “Size Means Everything”. You just have to get up more often – to change the record.

Long Song Silver Ep 7

Do you want to know who really loves long songs? Really, really, really loves them? The DJ. You put on “Stairway” or “Hotel De California” and the DJ has time to take a piss, smoke a cigarette and refill the coffee pot. Or you can play an extra long track just to fill airtime when there are no commercials and you don’t want to do that much work. We here at Balcony Radio carry on that tradition . . . every once in a while we put on the long tunes and get a li’l blotto while the guitar solo goes into its third minute (and Scott puts on the coffee). The show is called Long Song Silver. Dig: it.

101 Series Lesson 99.2: Bob Marley In Studio

If you really, really, really think about it . . . reggae is folk music for Jamaican people. And, just like in the folk scene, the main guy is named Bob. For the second part of Lesson 99 of the 101 Series, we follow Mr. Marley and his Wailers into the studio for two hours of tunes. And then we bumped into the mixing board because it was so smoky in there. Pull up some collie and enjoy dank jams from all Bob’s albums. Just make sure to pass it, Jah is watching.

I Remember That Ep 7 (Hardcore Oldies)

Every once in a while you need to listen to some oldies. Tunes that are older than 30-35 years that now defines the lost art of oldies radio. For episode 7 of our oldies show I Remember That we go to the ringers – the mashers – the heavy hitters that hit home runs every time they step in a studio or when their records spin on the turntable. This is the time for hardcore oldies and music that is more than a trip into nostalgia. You may, however, go for a stomp around the living room.

101 Series Lesson 99.1: Bob Marley (Live, Jah!)

Time once again to listen to the music of another head on Mt. Rushmore. For Lesson 99 of the 101 Series we take a two-part journey into the smokey world of reggae music and the late, great Bob Marley and his band, The Wailers. For Part 1, we go “live” and dance with the crowds and try to see through the thick clouds of smoke at the one they say is Jah. No matter – we’ll just stand here in our spot and move quietly from side-to-side.
