Swingtime Ep 8: Ladies On The Bandstand

Yowsa, Yowsa, Yowsa! Hello there, friends and neighbors. It’s time to shine up that tux, put on those spats and grease back that hair. Let’s head over to the local armory for some dancing and singing guaranteed to put a smile on your face. It’s our tribute to the Great American Songbook and the people who make the music, Swingtime. This week it’s episode 8 and we focus on the ladies who sing those sweet melodies. The band is warming up and the announcer is bringing the next act to the stage. Let’s move up closer so we can see.

This Pill Makes You Small Ep 8

Well, it’s time to go zooming into the ozone, taste the clouds and tongue kiss the stratosphere. Book a flight to forever as it’s time for This Pill Makes You Small, our look and listen to psychedelia in all its forms. For episode 8, we suggest you ingest whatever assistance needed to fully envelope yourself in the Milky Way. We’ve got the soundtrack to keep your head from going too far over the edge. Virtual reality shifts into fantasy and nothing is everything and something to think about. If you can..!

Soulville Ep 8: Brown-Eyed Soul

Music is the language of the soul and tonight it’s rolling it’s Rs. One of the Spanish words for “soul” is Alma. That’s a girl’s name. Hispanic people get the math of: Girl + (Pleasure)/(Pain) = Soul. In episode ocho of Soulville we spin the lowrider jams to soundtrack a cruise down Whittier Blvd. So, put your forty ounce in a paper bag and tell your girl to pencil in her eyebrows nice, we gotta meet on the corner for some real music. For the next two hours it’s all the tunes that have kept Art Laboe up nights for decades.

Sock Rockin’ Beats Ep 8: F’N METAL!!

It’s always fun to smash things – take a big piece of furniture in your hands and just break it for no reason other than to mess up the place. We have just that activity in mind and there is only one type of music to listen to when you’re destroying your apartment – Heavy Metal! For episode 8 of our tribute to all things too loud, Sock Rockin’ Beats, we set about trying to break our lease. For almost 2 hrs we play the best classic Heavy Metal designed to have the neighbors call the cops. Through the course of the show we encourage you to jump on the couch, set off the smoke alarm and launch your TV out the window. It’s the fun thing to do!

Off The Wall Ep 8 (Pulling Them As We Don’t See Them)

Sometimes you have to throw away a couple rules, break the Fourth Wall, and try something a bit different – take a few chances and see what develops. For episode 8 of our tribute to long-playing vinyl Off The Wall your hosts take it directly to the wall. We take the mic off the stand and we pull records from our often talked about shelves in the BalconyRadio studio “live” on the air. Each of your hosts drags a blind finger across the collection and pull a whole bunch of vinyl and play as much as we can in 2 hrs. You’ll hear needles dropping on vinyl, poor cues looking for tracks plus assorted scratches and rubs. It’s like hangin’ out in the basement playing your favorite records. Don’t mind the smell it’s…oregano! We’re having pizza.

Then you need episode 8 of Long Song Silver, a soundtrack of songs which run without need of stopping for a long time. The only time they do stop is to allow someone to tell you what you’ve heard. And then it starts all over again. So warm up your attention span for a healthy workout. You’ll have to return that phone call in about 15 minutes.

101 Series Lesson 117: Harry Nilsson

There are not enough words, sometimes, to describe the greatness of an artist and their work. And the hunt for those words is usually done after an artist has passed from this mortal coil. Harry Nilsson is just such an artist. For Lesson 117 of the 101 Series we search for the right words to express our feelings on Harry’s music. And we find a few good ones. But mostly the music offers the best insight. We wanted to play twice as many songs as a substitute for words so it could have been longer. But sometimes there is beauty in brevity.

I Remember That Ep 8: Rockabilly Time!

Well, hey there hip cats, hot ladies, and all you kiddies that make the world go ROCK-BAM-BOOM!! Time to grease back your DA or put on that pretty pink party dress. There’s some rockin’ coming at ya! It’s episode 8 of our rock ‘n’ roll rerun show I Remember That and this week we step out and paint the town red with some serious Rockabilly. It’s time to swing on up to the bandstand for 90 mins of boogie time. It’s gonna be a hot-rockin’ time so be sure you have plenty of cold beverages ready for consumption.

101 Series Lesson 116: Aerosmith

There are lots of things that Boston is famous for – beans, clam chowder, trading Babe Ruth for an 86-year World Series drought. Boston is also home to the subject of Lesson 116 of the 101 Series – Aerosmith, also know as the “Bad Boys From Boston”. This week we rock New England and surrounding environs with burning tracks from, Tyler, Perry, Kramer, Hamilton and Whitford. We also try to figure out how long it will be before Steven Tyler’s cheeks start dragging on the ground. It’s a serious 2 hours of ass-kickin’ rock that’s been overlooked for too long. Time to ROCK THE HOUSE!!
